Panel Discussion on Cyber Security and Privacy: Theory and Practice  

 Abstract

Cyber security  challenges of providing the protection of sensitive data. Privacy issue adds more challenges in today's age of mobile computing and IOT. Cloud system has added more challenges to the security and privacy issues. Cloud architecture should have the facilities to protect data and identity of the cloud clients. Government, financial institutions, enterprises are investigating security and privacy issues to reduce cyber threats and cyber crimes. Now the critical point is - "Are the conventional technical approaches like using cryptography, digital signature or layered authentication enough to handle these issues?" In our panel discussion, honorable panel speakers will share their views, knowledge and research experiences.

Panel Chair: Prof. Dr. Mahmuda Naznin, CSE, BUET

Dr. Shahadat Khan, CEO, Progoti Systems Ltd. 

Dr. Shahadat Khan is the CEO of Progoti Systems Limited, one of the topmost current mobile financial services companies  in Bangladesh specializing in mobile financial services and software development. Dr. Khan has more than 23 years of experience including university teaching, research and development, software engineering, product marketing, technology consulting, and building IT-based solutions for social development. Before founding Progoti Systems, he worked as the CTO at Eyeball Networks, Canada. Shahadat Khan was a Canadian Commonwealth Scholar, and received his Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from University of Victoria, Canada. He holds 15 patents, and has published numerous articles in journals and technical magazines. 

Prof. Dr. Mahfuzul Islam, CSE, BUET

Dr. Mahfuzul Islam is currently working as a Professor in Dept. of CSE, BUET. He has been serving as the Head of the department since 2014. Dr. Mahfuz received his B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1997 and 2000, respectively. He received his PhD from Monash University of Australia in 2007.  His research interests include Wireless Networks, Wireless Resource Management, Network Security, Steganography, Biometric security.  He published many research articles in reputed international journals and conferences including WiMob, LCN, ANTS, ICN, ICC, VTC, IEEE Wireless Communications, Journal of Computer Communications, JNW, , Journal of Ocean Engineering etc.

Dr. Md. Shohrab Hossain, CSE, BUET

Dr. Md. Shohrab Hossain received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in the year 2003 and 2007, respectively. He obtained his PhD degree from the School of Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma, USA in 2012. He is currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh. His research interests include mobility of IPv6 networks, wireless network security, Mobile Cloud Computing architecture and its security. He published many research articles in reputed international journals and conferences including MILCOM, ICC, Globecom, LCN, IEEE Transaction on Mobile Computing, Wireless Personal Communications, JNW, IJCNDS  etc.

Dr. Anindya Iqbal, CSE, BUET

 

Dr. Aninday Iqbal is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Dept. of CSE, BUET. Dr. Iqbal received his B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He received his PhD from Monash University of Australia in 2014.  His research interests include wireless and mobile computing, network security, participatory sensor network. He published research articles in reputed international journals and conferences including WOWMOM, WCNC, NSS, TrustCom, Ad Hoc Networks, Journal of Networks and  Computer Applications, etc.

Minaor Hossain Tanzil, CIO, Head of Solution Business, Kona Software Lab 

Minaoar Hossain Tanzil is Chief Information Officer, and Head of Solution Business, of Kona Software Lab Ltd.—a smartcard-based solution development and business center of South Korean payments and security industry pioneer Kona I Co., Ltd. As Head of Solution Business, Tanzil is steering the missions and operations of two divisions—Technical Marketing and Customization & Development—both of equal magnitude that serve Kona’s client base across markets and countries. His prime contribution is to strategize product roadmap and organizational goals, and achieve them through smooth and competitive collaboration of business and technical teams. For years he has also been concentrating on the business models and technical architecture of standard EMV payments service platform consisting of but not limited to Host Card Emulation, Cloud Based Payments, Trusted Service Manager, Card Personalization System and Tokenization. He played a key role in architectural design of company’s upcoming significant release—Kona Pay. After graduating from the top engineering school of Bangladesh, and earning an MBA in Finance, Tanzil served several multinational engineering firms and corporate houses, and was an integral part of their business activities. His experience as Lead Engineer, Head of Strategic Business Unit in global organizations helps him conceptualize complex system solutions and their implementation. Tanzil is an honorary life member of BUET Debating Club, and enjoys critical thinking, open discussion and interaction with people.

Mohammad Anwarul Hoque, Sr. Chief Engineer, Samsung R&D Institute 

Anwarul Hoque has been working in Samsung R&D Institute, Bangladesh as Sr. Chief Engineer. He graduated BSc in CSE from University of Dhaka (Bangladesh) in 2004 and MSc in CSE from Kyung Hee University (South Korea) in 2006. He is author of 1 patent and several papers in Image Processing area.
