Dr. Md. Mostofa Akbar · ডঃ মোঃ মোস্তফা আকবর

Dr. Md. Mostofa Akbar is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka — the country's leading engineering institution, where he has spent most of his academic career.

He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Victoria, Canada (2002), where his dissertation developed the distributed utility model for optimal admission control and QoS adaptation in multimedia systems and enterprise networks. He earlier earned his M.Sc. (1998) and B.Sc. (1996) in Computer Science and Engineering from BUET.

His research spans combinatorial optimization — notably the multidimensional multiple-choice knapsack problem, where his convex-hull construction algorithm is among his most-cited works — along with multimedia systems, distributed systems, computer networks, and VLSI (systems-on-chip and networks-on-chip). In recent years the group has moved into applied AI, including retrieval-augmented generation and LLM-based software testing.

He has published more than 65 papers in international journals and conferences, with over 1,300 citations and an h-index of 15 (Google Scholar), and has served on the program committees of numerous international conferences held in Bangladesh and abroad.
