Seminar on computer vision research at UWA: Automatic markerless 3D motion analysis:

Our distinguished alumnus Dr. Ferdous Sohel will be visiting BUET on January 25, 2012. During the visit he will deliver a seminar on Computer vision as per following schedule:

Abstract: This talk will cover three interesting research projects: Markerless 3D motion capture in outdoor/aquatic environments; Quality assessment for multi-resolution 3D video; Liveness detection and template security for multimodal hand biometrics. Markerless motion capture research is constituent of a number of major research blocks: data acquisition, background segmentation, visual hull reconstruction, 3D body part segmentation and motion analysis. We will discuss these in details in the talk. Two other projects will be briefly discussed.

Biography: F. Sohel received his BSc and PhD degrees respectively in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2002 and Information Technology from Monash University, Australia in 2008. He is currently a Research Assistant Professor at the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia. His current research interests include computer vision, biometrics, biomechanics, parametric curve representation, object and content analysis, contour-based shape coding, and error concealment for interactive multimedia. He has published over 30 scientific papers. He is a recipient of the Monash University Faculty of Information Technology Doctoral Medal 2008 and the Monash University Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal 2008. He is an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Fellow.
