Biography

Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Adnan is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He received his MSc Engg. and BSc Engg. degrees in CSE from BUET in 2008 and 2006 respectively. He received the prestigious Dr. Rashid Gold Medal from the President of Government of Bangladesh for achieving the highest grade in MSc Engg. at BUET. Dr. Adnan completed his PhD from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), USA in 2015. He also worked as an active member of Microelectronic Embedded Systems Laboratory (MESL) and as a visiting scholar at University of California San Diego (UCSD) in USA. His research areas cover a wide range of topics in large scale systems that include Cloud Computing, Mobile Computing, BIG DATA Analytics, Data Science, Machine Learning for Large Scale Systems, Natural Language Processing, Green Computing, Data Center Networking, Smart Grid and Internet of Things. During his PhD, he developed and implemented energy-efficient load balancing and workload deferral algorithms for data centers and cloud. Dr. Adnan has received many research awards and grants from both scientific communities like Heidelberg Laureate Forum, Germany, North American Association of Computational Linguistics, USA and industries like Samsung, Korea, Amazon, USA and Government of Bangladesh. Dr. Adnan’s research papers have been published in top-ranking journals and conferences such as the ACM Transactions, Elsevier Big Data Research, ACM SIGKDD, ACM WSDM, IEEE ICDE, IEEE Cloud, NAACL, ICASSP, IEEE BigData, IEEE IC2E, etc. Dr. Adnan is the lead of Cloud Analytics Research group and Applied Machine Learning Research group in the department of Computer Science and Engineering at BUET. Dr. Adnan also played a key role in establishing the Cloud Lab and Samsung Applied Machine Learning Lab at CSE, BUET and is currently serving as the coordinator of these labs.
