Biography
Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam is a Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET); Provost, Shahid Smrity Hall, BUET; President, Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS); Chairman, Computer Engineering Division, IEB; Chairman, Question Formulation Committee, BD-ITEC, ICT Division, Peoples Republic of Bangladesh and IT Promotion Agency, Japan; Vice-President, BUET Bangbhandu Parishad, Science and Technology Secretary, Bangabandhu Shikkha and Gobeshona Porishad Central Committee, Ex-Head, Department of CSE, BUET, Ex-Director of Dhaka Electric Power Company (DESCO), Ex- Associate Director of Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW) at BUET, Ex-Assistant Provost, Nazrul Islam Hall, BUET, Ex-International Students’ Officer, Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) (2004-2005), Ex- Gippsland Campus Representative, MPA (2003-2004), and the Senior Vice-president, Jamalpur Zila Students’ Association, Dhaka (1996-1997), President, Learning Geography by Playing, Melandah Umir Uddin Pilot High School.
He completed his PhD from Gippsland School of IT, Monash University, Australia in 2006. He completed his MSc Engg and BSc Engg degrees from Department of CSE, BUET in 2000 and 1997, respectively. He got many academic scholarship including Monash International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (MIPRS) and Monash Graduate Scholarship (MGS) throughout his student life.
He is a Fellow of Bangladesh Computer Society, Fellow of Engineers Institute, Bangladesh (IEB) and Member of IEEE. He served as the general chair of NSysS 2015 and NSysS 2016 and Program Chair in NSysS 2017.
Dr. Islam published more than 60 journals, conferences and research articles in highly reputed publishing domain like IEEE, Elsevier and Willey. He worked as a reviewer in a wide number of world famous journals. He served as the project leader, a consultant, an assessor and a team member in a number of government and non-government projects including Machine Readable Passport, National ID Project, Hi-Tech Driving License Project, Digital Classroom, VAT Automation conceptual model and DNA Lab.
