Welcome to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), BUET!

Dear Students, Colleagues, Alumni, and Friends,
It is with immense pride that I extend a warm welcome to you all to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) – the pioneer of computer science education in Bangladesh.

As the first department of its kind in the country, CSE BUET has consistently set the standard for excellence in education, research and innovation. Offering Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering, as well as specialized postgraduate programs (Master's, and Ph.D.) in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI & ML), Data Science, Cyber Security, and Software Engineering, we are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators in these rapidly evolving fields. Our recent expansion in this front is supported by the Ministry of Education (Bangladesh) and funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Our world-class education and research activities are designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to thrive in today's dynamic tech landscape. With a highly competitive environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and a team of dedicated faculty members and colleagues, we ensure that every student reaches their full potential and emerges as a trailblazer in their chosen field.

Currently, our department hosts about 700 undergraduate students and 400 graduate students, all of whom are driven by a shared passion for excellence and a commitment to making a difference in the world.

I am proud to share that the Department of CSE, BUET has been consistently recognized for its excellence on the global stage. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject published in 2021, we achieved an impressive ranking in the range of 301-350. This recognition underscores our unwavering dedication to academic excellence and innovation. Our students have participated and secured commendable positions in ACM Collegiate Programming contest for more than 20 years. Our faculties have secured many national and international prestigious awards. Our undergraduate and graduate students are regularly publishing in top CS, AI, and Data Engineering venues. All these achievements are testament to the remarkable progress we have made in recent years.

To our students, I encourage you to seize every opportunity that comes your way, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and strive for excellence in all your endeavors.

To our colleagues, I extend my deepest appreciation for your tireless dedication and commitment to advancing our department's mission. Your expertise, mentorship, and collaborative spirit are essential to our collective success.

To our esteemed alumni, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and contributions to our department's success. Your achievements serve as an inspiration to current and future generations of CSE students.
